The Tidewater Association
for Hearing Impaired Children, Inc

The Door - Deafness;   The Key - Communication;   The Choice - Yours!

About TAHIC:

The Tidewater Association for Hearing Impaired Children (TAHIC), founded in 1960, is comprised of parents, families, friends, and professionals whose common goal is to serve the best interest of hearing-impaired children of all ages through various activities. Although varied in our relationship to the hearing-impaired child, our unity as a group gives a solid base from which a child may grow.

TAHIC provides opportunities for hearing-impaired children by helping parents work effectively with their local schools and teachers to keep the lines of communication open. We do this by creating a setting where parents, teachers, and other professionals can learn from one another through informal social gatherings as well as planned educational programs and workshops.

TAHIC is not committed to any one method of communication. We support them all. We recognize that children are different and hearing losses are different. TAHIC seeks to have informed parents and professionals so that decisions can be made with an awareness of all the alternatives and with an understanding of what is best for the individual child. In this way TAHIC is a support and advocacy organization.

Days and locations of our meetings change each month, depending upon the availability of our speakers and meeting rooms. Dates and locations are announced in our newsletter. The meetings begin with a social time and registration at 6:30 pm followed by the regular meeting at 7:00 pm.
